Scientists around the world are working hard to develop greener tech that can help mitigate environmental changes and protect those who may be vulnerable to extreme weather incidents.

These three, in particular, took to the skies to help the Earth with impressive and important technological advancements.

Check out their amazing discoveries:

  • Faster surface solar radiation monitoring. The newly unveiled monitoring system is so fast, in fact, that it provides near-real-time measurement for precise locations. This is super helpful for knowing where and when harmful and helpful human activity or natural phenomena are happening. Full article
    • Surface solar radiation is essentially the sunlight that reaches Earth. The right amount of sunlight is helpful, but too much can damage Earth and its creatures. Various human activities increase the likelihood of excess sunlight reaching Earth’s surface.
  • Rapid thunderstorm prediction. Severe weather events are no fun, and can be downright disastrous if they hit with no warning. New satellite tech is addressing this by making thunderstorm predictions earlier and over a wider area, including underserved locations. Full article
  • Double solar energy output. Researchers in Jordan have developed a device that converts both sunlight and warm air into energy. The best part? This device is a major improvement from previous models and works in both day and nighttime! Full article
