The holidays are in full swing, but there’s still time to choose eco-friendly options for those last-minute decorations, activities, and gifts. Need some inspiration? We’ve got you covered:

  • Use natural decorations. Dried sprigs and fruit slices, like lavender or oranges, make bright, beautiful garlands, ornaments, and gift embellishments.
  • Stock up on food and drink from local farmers and makers. You’ll support the locals and help cut down on transportation emissions!
  • Swap in recyclable wrapping paper instead of the conventional stuff that must be thrown out. Find the good stuff on Amazon, Canadian Tire, and Walmart, or check if local boutiques carry some.
  • Embrace reusable wrapping and encourage others to save and reuse wrapping that’s in good condition. Twine, ribbons, bows, boxes, fabric, drawstring bags, and even wrapping paper can be saved and reused.
  • Give experiences instead of material items. This works well for that person who has everything or who is difficult to buy for. A few ideas:
    • Time slot or gift card at an escape room, laser tag, arcade, or virtual reality experience.
    • Tickets to a local comedy show, movie, museum, concert, or play.
    • Lessons for pottery, cooking, painting, dancing, rock climbing.
    • Tour a local winery, brewery, or distillery.
    • Book a massage or spa day, or get them a gift card for their favourite hair salon
    • Time slot or gift card for a cat, dog, or bunny rescue cafe (yes, that is as magical as it sounds).
