Thanks to oysters, expensive water filtration systems might be getting a run for their money as far as water cleaning goes. Oysters are excellent at cleaning water because they are filter feeders—they pump water through their bodies and gills to trap tiny food particles, and end up trapping pollutants while they’re at it.
- One adult oyster can filter up to 190 liters (50 gallons) of water per day!
